The thesis named "Sense of Life in the Work of Karel Čapek" treats the problems of raison- d'etre of life seen by Karel Čapek. At first this thesis is preoccupied by Čapek's personality and character of his era. Karel Čapek is characterized as an author in whose works were projected his philosophical views influenced mainly by pragmatism. The thesis analyses Čapek's works treating issues of sense of life. Particularly these are two proses by Čapek "Obyčejný život" (Common Life) and "Život a dílo skladatele Foltýna "(The Life and Work of Composer Foltýn). These two novels are at first analyzed separately and then compared.
Forest management of the Dominican order in the Mimoň region

This thesis deals with the forest management of the Dominican Order in Mimoň area. Specifically, it focuses mainly on the area of Hamr nad Jezerem, in the years 1931-1938 and the last years of the active duty of the Directorate of the Dominican forest management in 1945-1950. The emphasis of the thesis is based on the description of the previously uncharted historical chapter of the Dominican order in this area, especially with regard to the economic activity of the forest administration in this given period and legal aspects of the whole issue with the acquisition, loss and subsequent efforts to return these properties. The Fund no. 37 in the Archive of the Dominican order, deposited in the 1st Department of the National archive in Prague, was used as the main source, subsequently supplemented by specialized and professional literature, an interview with the legal representative of the Dominican order in Prague in the case of restitution and also by few internet resources. Eleonora Mendlova. A biography.

The aim of this diploma thesis is to scrutinize the story of life of Eleonora Mendlova, the wife of Bedrich Mendl, the first professor of economic history at Charles University. The thesis enables the reader to give a closer look at the Mendl family who, undoubtedly, belongs to the cultural elites of the Czechoslovakia. With the analysis of the extant sources, it is providing a thorough image of the life of Eleonora Mendlova and her family at the background of the dramatic events of the last century. Eleonora Mendlova, born Mrackova, started her study career at the private comprehensive school Minerva and then she continued with her study at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Charles University which she did not finish. She got married to Bedrich Mendl who worked for the National Regional Institute. His work required visiting various Czech and European archives. Thanks to the travels, we can follow the story of life of a woman in the shade of a big man during the unsettled political situation. The life of Eleonora Mendl was marked considerably by the both World Wars, especially by the death of her husband during the period the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia because of his Jewish origin.
